Test Ride - Asics Gel Kayano 14

The 14th edition of the Asics Gel Kayano was released earlier this month with much anticipation. The Gel Kayano 14 features improved stability and a new upper geometry that is meant to enhance the fit in the rear foot. A new Solyte midsole material is the lighter cousin of ASICS’ EVA and SpEVA,with improved cushioning and durability. The personal heel fit also creates a personalized fit for the runner.

I picked up a pair two weeks ago and was excited to go back to the Kayanos, which I have not run in since version 12. On the first try on I immediately noticed the snug fit in the upper and the heel. The only drawback is the weight of the shoe, but keep in mind it is a highly cushioned stability shoe. I also enjoyed the feel out of the box; the solyte is a firm ride but very smooth once you put a few miles into the shoe. Overall, I recommend the Gel Kayano 14 if you fit the prescription for a stability shoe. If you were soured over the Gel Kayano 14 predecessors, I recommend visiting your local running store and trying it on for yourself. You may find yourself back in Asics.
